A hope that doesn't disappoint.

Grace and peace dear friends,

"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us" Romans 5:1-5esv

I'm having some trouble with this passage today. I've been wanting to write on this one all week but I'm struggling with the idea of giving advice that I've failed to take. I wanted to tell you about the great joy you should have knowing that forever you shall "have peace with God". Unfortunately I was unable to stay clinging to that promise and had quite a few lapses this week.

I also really wanted to make the focus on that glorious hope that we have because of Christ. Amazing hope, that not only will we experience the full joy of being in God's glorious presence but we can have confidence in that hope because of the joy we experience now through the Holy Spirit living in our heart. It's because of Him that we rejoice in the power of God that gives us strength to patiently endure the character building trials and tribulations of life. Alas, here again I failed this last week. I've had some gloomy days of trial that made me just lose sight of the great joy and hope that this passage of Scripture promises. So I assumed it would be hypocritical to exhort you all to something I couldn't do. However, I don't think that's the right way to think about it. I think a better approach might be one in which I exhort myself and you at the same time. If I need the pep talk, maybe some one of you out there needs it also. So stand up and get back on that horse. The promise of victory is right there, the hope we have will not put us to shame because God has said so. And that should be more than sufficient ground for all of us who claim to follow the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,"Psalms 146:5esv

Father God, forgive me for falling short in so many areas this past week. Help me to go forward in the grace and strength that you supply. Fill my heart and theirs with greater affections for you and your Word so that we can love and honor you more deeply than before. We long for that deep unshakable hope that joyfully embraces all that this life can throw at us for the production of a walk of faith fully worthy of Him who called us out of the darkness and into His marvelous light. Praise be to your name most Holy God. In Christ's name I pray and ask that you move in the hearts of all whose eyes find this note. Amen.

For the Joy of Your Faith and the Hope of your calling,
Teagan
