Grace and peace to you my friends,
" Trust in the LORD, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act."
Psalm 37:3-5 ESV
What an amazing promise from the lord. Delightfully follow his directions living out His commandments and He will reward you with the desires of your heart. Simply astonishing, yet at the same time incredibly hard to believe isn't it. The key to grasping this promise is in the context. Having the desires of our heart given to us is a conditional promise that is dependent upon our trusting in the Lord, delighting in the Lord and our committing of our ways to Him. You see, if we do these things we will be in fellowship with Him and have a healthy relationship with Him. This will produce a satisfaction and joy that enables us to be content with the circumstances of the life He has called us to live.
The point here is that when we are aligned with Him, the only kinds of things we will ever desire and wish for, will be the very kinds of things that He wants to bless us with. When our heart is in tune with His our desire will become His desire. In the New Testament Jesus spoke to a similar topic and worded it like this,
"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Mathew 6:31-33 ESV
The questions we need to be asking ourselves here are these, is God giving me the desires of my heart and are my prayers being answered the way I hoped for? Obviously we won't always know what's best for us but in general if we've answered,"no" then the problem isn't that God is rejecting us and our dreams. No, the problem is that our dreams and our desires are not in alignment with our loving Saviors desire for blessing us.
For me, as I think about what I need to do in order to grow and live out Psalms 37:3-5 the answer is pretty straight forward though the application may not be. I need to trust and treasure my Lord and Savior more than anything else in this physical world so that I can enjoy and delight in the contentment that it will bring to the physical circumstances God has placed me in.
God is Good my friends, may He always be the delight of your hearts and the love of your life as you Rejoice in Him and seek first His Kingdom.
For the Joy of Your Faith,
Teagan
