Grace and peace to you my friends,
Do you have a right view of your own sin and it's effects on you and those around you? After reading Psalms chapter 6 this morning I'm confident that I could definitely learn to take mine much more serious than I currently do. Don't get me wrong I really hate my own sinful condition. I can never seem to get far enough away from it. However when I read Davids response this morning it made me realize that I should be asking God to help me to learn to see my condition with clearer eyes like His. Here's the verses I'm referring to.
" I am weary with my moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
My eye wastes away because of grief;
it grows weak because of all my foes."
Psalm 6:6-7 ESV
Davids response is truly right on the mark. This is why God refereed to him as a man after His own heart. David knew how to view his own sin. When the Lord opened his eyes to see his sinful mistakes he flooded his bed with tears. What an example. I know that over the period of my life there have been a few times when confronted with my own sin I've broke down but it generally had to do with some thing big and dramatic. If I had a consistent view of Sin like God does it should cause me to respond like David regardless of how "big or small" the sin is. In God's eyes, sin is sin. Jesus told His disciples that if you've broken one commandment of the law you're guilty of breaking all of it. None of us has any shortage of sin for us to lean how to properly respond to it.
Now I'm not talking about seeking to go around intentionally hanging a big weight of guilt around your neck, no. Christ carried our guilt to the cross so don't you dare go back there and try to take it back. "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" Romans 8:1, remember that one.
No, the point I'm getting at is that we should seek to learn how to view our sin through God's eyes. Friends scripture is very clear about how God feels about sin and as His children should we not seek to be like Him? So let us ask God to help us learn how to take our sinful condition seriously. It's far to easy to just say I'm forgiven so I don't have to worry about my sin any more and it's true that we are forgiven but we're still human and we still make mistakes. However if we had a better understanding of just how horrible our sin is, I'm confident that we would learn to react just like David here. And not only that, but we would try even harder to stay as far away from it as we could.
"Lord God, most precious Father, forgive me for taking so much for granted in this life, your Goodness and mercy being chief among them. You are so merciful to me and for that I'm so thankful. I thank you for using your Words from Davids pen this morning to speak to us and motivate us to want to grow in our ability to recognition and comprehend the depth of our own sin. Would you please help us Mighty God to learn how to recognize the little parasites of sin as they creep into our lives. And at the same time Lord would you teach us through your Word how to rightly respond to the sin in our lives as it is revealed to us by the power of your Spirit. We want to live to honor and please you O Lord. So renew our hearts desire and longing for your loving kindness and grace. May your name be praised forever as your children learn and grow. May it be said one day that we like David we're people after Your own heart. For the glory of Christ's name. Amen"
For the Joy of Your faith,
Teagan
