So that you may believe

Grace and peace to you my friends,

Has any one ever asked you why the Bible was written, specifically the New Testament? Or have you ever had to explain to a child why we have it? Maybe you've wondered the same thing. The good news for us in these cases is that the Bible is pretty straight forward on it. In the Gospel of John there is a verse where the author, John, explains why he wrote it.

"but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." John 20:31 ESV

Now in the context John is speaking of his own Gospel but this principle can safely be applied to the whole Bible. We have this revelation from God for the purpose of being reconciled to Him. And the only way that can happen is through faith in Jesus Christ as the only Son of God and our only source of a needed salvation from the just condemnation that we all deserve.
Paul tells us in Romans that every person, on some level, is aware that they deserve the wrath of God for there rebellion against Him, so they are with out any excuse.

"For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened." Romans 1:19-21 ESV

We all know in our hearts that there is a God and because He exists we are accountable to Him for how we live in His world. This is why we need salvation, because we could never afford to pay the price for our own freedom from sin and death. Only Jesus was worth enough to pay our ransom from the just eternal punishment that we all deserve. The Bible is very clear on this, that only faith in Jesus Christ can spare us from judgment and reconcile us to our God. The gift of eternal Life in the very presence of our Creator God and the Son Jesus Christ is ours for free if we choose it. And it is only possible because we can hold in our hands a written revelation from God, the Bible.

God's Word the Bible was written down and given to us so that we might, "believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name". So tell your friends or your children that God gave us His Word so that we can have LIFE in Christ Jesus our LORD.

Blessed be the Lord God Almighty for He has revealed to us His marvelous plan and His gift of life eternal. Amen

For the Joy of Your Faith and the Hope of Life in Jesus Name,
Teagan
